Camera trap captures curious leopard in Caucasus Biodiversity Reserve

The number of East Asian leopards in the world continues to decline.

A camera trap installed in the Caucasus Biodiversity Reserve (CBR) of the Foundation for Nature and Cultural Heritage (FPWC) captured a rare East Asian leopard (Panthera pardus tulliana). The FPWC camera trap attracted the attention of the curious leopard, giving us an opportunity to see an exceptional species of nature. The footage from the camera proves that the refuge is a safe environment for this irreplaceable species of Armenia and the region.

Unfortunately, the situation with the East Asian leopard continues to be alarming. According to the IUCN Red List, the population of this species in the world is only 450-626 individuals, of which only 3-9 are in Armenia.

FPWC has been carrying out extensive work on biodiversity conservation for many years, involving international and national partners solely for the purpose of conservation,” says Ruben Khachatryan, Director of the FPWC Foundation.

FPWC calls on the public to join in supporting conservation efforts for the East Asian leopard and continue working to protect this rare and valuable species.
