Spain issues maximum weather alert due to heavy rainfall

The Spanish National Meteorological Agency has warned of adverse weather in several regions of the country due to heavy rainfall.

As stated on the meteorological service’s website, the alert level has been raised to the maximum – red (extreme danger) due to rainfall in the south and east of the kingdom. Due to the bad weather, about 3,000 people were evacuated from their homes in the province of Malaga for safety reasons. In some localities in the autonomous communities of Valencia and Andalusia, it was also decided to cancel classes.

On October 29, the agency warned of adverse weather in various regions of the country due to heavy rainfall. Due to heavy rainfall, the weather alert level was raised to the maximum in the south and east of the kingdom. The worst affected area was the autonomous community of Valencia, where floods were recorded. About 220 people died as a result of the bad weather. The search for missing persons is still ongoing.
