The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that the tone of the telephone conversation between the leaders of the Russian Federation and Germany, Vladimir Putin and Olaf Scholz, was businesslike, and the conversation was quite frank. The Kremlin representative said this in an interview with VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin for the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin,” TASS reports.
“As far as I know, it was a fairly businesslike conversation: detailed, and quite frank, because the positions of the parties were mutually stated,” Peskov said.
Answering the question of why this conversation took place now, the press secretary of the Russian president said that “the situation has its own dialectic of development.”
“Of course, all the elements are probably coming together in such a way that there is political will to resume dialogue. In this case, this can only be welcomed, especially since President Putin has repeatedly said that he is open to conversation,” Peskov added.
The telephone conversation between the heads of both countries took place at the initiative of the German side on November 15. The last time they spoke on the phone was on December 2, 2022.
