Former head of one of China’s largest banks sentenced to death with two-year reprieve

Former Chairman of Bank of China Liu Liangge was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve on Tuesday for accepting bribes and illegally issuing loans, Xinhua reported.

The court found him guilty of accepting bribes worth more than 121 million yuan (about 16.8 million U.S. dollars). The “death penalty with a reprieve” is a substitute for the death penalty with imprisonment.

The investigation into Liu Liangge’s case began last year. At the same time, in 2023, former Chairman of China Everbright Group Li Xiaopeng was arrested. In addition, at the same time, the former head of China Life Insurance, Wang Bin, was sentenced to death with a reprieve.
