Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani said terrorists are wrong to think they can take over Aleppo as they did in the 2010s, arguing that the Syrian government is stronger and has the support of Russia, Iran and the Resistance, Mehr reported.
Amani on Friday denied reports that terrorists had taken over Aleppo, attributing these claims to a “cyber army spreading false information.”
“If terrorists think they can repeat the events of the early 2010s in Aleppo, they are wrong. The Syrian government is stronger now, and the Russian government is more determined to defend Syria.” The Resistance Front and Iran also continue to support the Syrian government and its people,” the Iranian ambassador said.
He explained that terrorist groups in Syria believe that the war against Israel “has weakened the Resistance Front and Hezbollah.”
“The terrorists think they can succeed at this stage, but I doubt they will be able to achieve even a relative victory,” Amani said.
He also accused the United States of collaborating with terrorist groups.
“The United States has been supplying them with new weapons in recent years, and Turkey’s borders remain open to them. The Syrian army is currently directly fighting these groups and has managed to stop their advance to some extent,” Amani said.
The Iranian ambassador added that these developments are likely to strengthen the Syrian government’s resolve to eliminate the presence of terrorist groups in parts of the Arab country.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) monitoring group reported on Saturday that Islamist groups now control most of the city of Aleppo.
Earlier, it was reported that pro-Turkish Islamist groups fighting Bashar al-Assad’s government forces launched a surprise offensive in northwestern Syria.
The rebels are led by the radical group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which broke away from al-Qaeda in 2017.
