The Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania, Estonia and Chargé d’Affaires of the Latvian Embassy Darius Vitkauskas, Marge Mardisalu-Kahar and Lolita Lenkevich were summoned to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, Georgia’s First Channel reports, citing the Georgian Foreign Ministry.
At the meeting, concern was expressed over the statement by the three countries on the introduction of sanctions against the leaders of the Georgian authorities and law enforcement officers.
“It was noted that this step does not correspond to the framework of partnership relations between the countries.
At the meeting, it was noted that Georgia is committed to international norms, and the state bodies of Georgia act in accordance with the constitution and international standards to ensure public order and security in the country.
Statements aimed at influencing the activities of institutions of a sovereign state and perceived as interference in the internal affairs of the country are unacceptable.
At the meeting, it was once again emphasized that the decision of the Georgian authorities not to put the issue of opening EU membership negotiations on the agenda of relations with the European Union until 2028 and to refuse EU budget grants does not mean the end of the process of Georgia’s integration into the European Union and is aimed at preventing the current destructive speculation on this issue. The Georgian authorities will resolutely continue the irreversible process of integration into the European Union based on the Association Agreement with the European Union, which gives the country the opportunity to better prepare for the rapid conduct of EU membership negotiations, therefore the statements about the termination of negotiations with the European Union by the Georgian authorities are not true.
At the meeting, the Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the parties will return to the traditionally existing friendly relations between the countries and cooperation will be based on mutual respect, – the statement says.
