Opposition appoints Mohammad al-Bashir as transitional PM of Syria

Mohammad al-Bashir, the head of the Syrian Salvation Government which has managed Idlib for several years, has been tasked with forming a new Syrian government to oversee the transitional phase, Al Jazeera reports.

This decision follows a meeting focused on power transfer arrangements and avoiding chaos in Syria. The meeting included opposition commander Ahmad al-Shar’ and former Syrian regime Prime Minister Mohamed al-Jallali, who was appointed to manage government affairs.

Al-Bashir, born in Idlib in 1983, holds a degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Aleppo University (2007) and a law degree from Idlib University (2021).

He previously served as the Director of Associations Affairs and later as the Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs in the Syrian Salvation Government in Idlib in 2022.
