The House of Commons—the lower house of the Parliament of Canada—has decided to allocate 764 million Canadian dollars (about US$587 million) for military aid to Ukraine, reports RBC-Ukraine.
This amount is part of a larger package of additional spending that includes $21 billion Canadian dollars (about US$14.4 billion) for various purposes, including strengthening national defense.
Canada’s Minister of National Defense, Bill Blair, informed that these funds will be used for ammunition, training of the Ukrainian military, and other necessary means to ensure the victory of Ukraine.
In addition to military support, the document calls for 400 million Canadian dollars (about US$307 million) in financial assistance to Ukraine through the IMF’s special account, and $45 million Canadian dollars (about US$35 million) for humanitarian demining and strengthening cybersecurity.
The Conservative Party, however, voted against this decision at the House of Commons, insisting on a change of government. But the respective budget spending was approved on the last day allowed by law.
Now this decision is expected to be voted on in the Senate—the upper house of the Parliament of Canada—in the near future.
