Lavrov: The West is putting pressure on the new Syrian authorities, even to the point of rudeness

The West is putting enormous pressure on the new Syrian authorities and is being rude to the republic. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with Russian and foreign media.

“It is clear that [the leader of the new Syrian authorities] Ahmed al-Sharaa and his associates are now under enormous pressure from the West, the Americans have become more active, the Europeans, and everyone wants to work not to preserve the unity of all ethnopolitical forces in Syria, but to wrest more influence and even territory for themselves,” he said.

The minister also called a number of statements by Western politicians about Syria “diplomatic rudeness.” “And as for the egoism of the West, the new head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas spoke very demonstratively, demanding that Syria stop cooperating with Russia, and such an important power as Estonia, through the mouth of its Minister of Foreign Affairs, I don’t remember the name, unfortunately, stated that Estonia will not support the new authorities in Damascus if they do not expel Russian military bases from Syria. Can you imagine how scary it is?” Lavrov summed up.

“That is why such diplomatic rudeness is becoming commonplace. The Ukrainian authorities act in the same way, insulting everyone who does not sing along with them, and our European neighbors act in the same way. I hope that life will teach them to respect the interests of all states without exception and abandon their neo-colonialist habits,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.
