Istanbul topped the ranking of cities in the world with the worst traffic jams, with the average city resident losing 105 hours a year in traffic jams, according to an analysis by Inrix.
Turkey’s largest city with a population of over 20 million people beat New York, Chicago, Mexico City, London and a number of other megacities in the ranking. The study covered over 900 cities in 37 countries.
The traffic jam situation in the city has worsened by 15% in a year, analysts note. A year earlier, Chicago was the leader in the ranking. At the same time, according to the same ranking for 2018, drivers in Istanbul spent 157 hours in traffic jams, and a year earlier only 59.
