Biden administration to announce its final military aid package for Ukraine Thursday

The White House is set to announce a massive, final weapons aid package for Ukraine on Thursday, two senior defense officials said, reports AP.

The official announcement will be made during US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s visit to Germany on Thursday.

The officials did not provide an exact dollar amount but said the package was expected to be “substantial,” although it would not include all of the roughly $4 billion left in the congressionally authorized funding for Ukraine.

The Biden administration has accelerated the delivery of US military aid to Ukraine in recent weeks, fearing that US President-elect Donald Trump, upon returning to the White House, could refuse to transfer the funds allocated by the US Congress to Kyiv, which had not yet been spent. A $2.5 billion package was announced in late December, the largest package since January 2023.
