Republicans in the US Congress have prepared a bill that would allow US President-elect Donald Trump to begin negotiations on the purchase of Greenland immediately after taking office. This was reported by Reuters, which obtained a copy of the document.
According to the agency, the bill was named the Make Greenland Great Again Act – by analogy with Trump’s main political slogan Make America Great Again. The authors of the document were members of the House of Representatives Andy Ogles and Diane Harshbarger (both from Tennessee), and as of the morning of January 13, it was supported by 10 legislators.
According to Reuters, the bill contains a clause according to which Trump will have the opportunity to “enter into negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark for the purpose of acquiring Greenland by the United States” immediately after taking office on January 20. In addition, according to the bill, if Trump reaches an agreement with Denmark, he will have to transfer “the agreement, as well as all accompanying materials and additions” to the relevant congressional committees within five days.
