Taiwan’s armed forces have detected more than 20 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft crossing the median line over the Taiwan Strait, which separates the island from mainland China, in the past few hours, the Taiwan Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“A total of 22 PLA aircraft of various types have been detected since 08:20 today,” the statement said. The ministry said the aircraft included Shenyang J-16 multirole fighters and Shaanxi KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft.
“Of these, 19 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the northern, central, southwestern and eastern air defense zones,” the statement said.
