Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has announced his decision to resign, Euronews reports.
The politician stated that he intends to leave office on Wednesday.
Opposition parties were planning to ask parliament to vote on the impeachment of the head of state Monday.
According to the constitution, in the event of the resignation of the Romanian head of state, a new presidential election a must be held within three months.
