A meeting between the leaders of the United States and Russia in Saudi Arabia may take place in the near future, but it should have been organized before the crisis in Ukraine or immediately after it began. This was stated on Sunday by US President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists from the White House press pool.
“The time is not determined, but it could happen very soon,” the head of the Washington administration said in response to a question about when he plans to hold a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia.
“This should have been done three or four years ago, before all this started. This should have been done right after it started, and not now, three years later,” Trump concluded.
Bloomberg, citing sources, previously reported that a meeting of US and Russian officials could take place next week in Saudi Arabia. It will allegedly be aimed at preparing for possible negotiations between the leaders of the two countries. The agency specified that the leading role in the American delegation will be assigned to Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
