Azerbaijan is waiting for only one last step, to make amendments to the Constitution of Armenia, which will apply to territorial claims against Azerbaijan, after which the final peace agreement will become a reality. This was announced in Baku by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan, at the CAMCA 2026 Regional Conference. Accordingto him, peace and security have been established in the South Caucasus, but it is important to ensure their stability. He noted that the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict has been settled for many years, and Azerbaijan has shown strategic patience and leadership. “We've always said we won the war, but it was important to do one more thing: win the peace. This was indeed an extremely difficult task that required strategic thinking, patience, and the leadership of the president, ”the presidential aide stressed.According to Hajiyev, de facto peace now prevails in the region. “As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said, we live in peace and even learn to live in peace. Since the first days of our independence, there has not been enough peace on the land. But now we are working hard, and today there is de facto peace in the region, but peace should not be left only on paper, ”he said. Hajiyev added that appropriate amendments are expected to be made to the Constitution of Armenia for the final conclusion of the peace agreement. “We are waiting for only one last step, to make amendments to the Constitution of Armenia, which will devour the territorial claims of Azerbaijan. After that, I think the final peace agreement will become a reality, ”he said.
