The U23 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, USA, kicked off with a freestyle fight that will culminate in an inspection competition. On the first day of the competition, the 61, 74, 86, 92 and 125 kg weight classes came out on the mat. On the starting day, 5 wrestlers entered the Armenian team, two of which, Sargis Begoyan (61 kg) and Razmik Ephremyan (86 kg), continue to fight for bronze medals. The closest to qualifying for the final in our squad was Sarkis Begoyan, who weighed 61 kg. Overcoming the ban of preliminary rounds, the Armenian wrestler entered the top four, where he measured his strength for qualification to the final with the representative of Kyrgyzstan, Yukhan Dokturbek Wulu. In an extremely spectacular, intense and points-rich fight, Begoyan showed stubborn resistance, but at the end he conceded 8:10. The Armenian athlete will continue the fight directly in the bronze medal fight. The opportunity to stand on the platform of honor was also maintained by 86 kg weightlifter Razmik Ephremian. In the quarter-finals, the Armenian wrestler conceded 1: 3 to Turkey's Ahmet Jagan. The latter prevailed 3: 2 over Moldovan Evgeni Mikhalchin in the semi-finals and reached the final, thus enabling Ephraimian to continue the fight in the consolation bouts. Now the warrior will also fight for the bronze medal of the World Cup if he overcomes the ban of the consolation round. The other three representatives of Armenia who competed on the first day have unfortunately left the fight. It should be added that the five starting heavyweight medal fights will take place on October 18 and will start at 05:00 Yerevan time. The U23 World Wrestling Championship will end on October 18.
