Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar claims that the radical Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad, based in the Gaza Strip, now want to pose a new threat to his country from Syria. He made this claim at a meeting with senior European officials in Brussels on February 24, The Jerusalem Post reported.
“Hamas and Islamic Jihad are operating in Syria to create a new front against Israel,” Saar claimed.
He also criticized the new leadership of Syria, led by the transitional president of the republic, Ahmed al-Sharaa. According to the Israeli minister, a “jihadist Islamist terrorist group” is in power there. “Everyone knows who al-Sharaa is. Not only are they not inclusive, they are taking revenge on the Alawites, they are harming the Kurds. We will not compromise security on our border,” Saar stressed.
