The United States is the only party that can force Israel to stop the war in the Gaza Strip. Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh expressed this opinion to Al Arabiya television.
“The US is the only party that can force Israel to stop the war in the Gaza Strip,” al-Sheikh said, expressing hope that the radical Palestinian Hamas movement will also take bold steps that will lead to an end to the war.
“The Hamas movement is part of the [Palestinian] people, it cannot remain outside of political life. Hamas must change its policies to become part of our political system,” continued al-Sheikh, assuring that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) was conducting a dialogue with Hamas.
“The best way to establish a Palestinian state now is peaceful resistance to Israel, not armed struggle. We are negotiating with Israel to achieve our rights and establish our own state. Our priority is to strengthen the Palestinian people in their land,” the Palestinian vice president stressed. “We will not accept any alternative to the PNA’s rule in the Gaza Strip.”
