Russia is actively engaged in a dialogue with its Transcaucasian partners to strengthen security in the region. Russia maintains close cooperation with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia on the fight against terrorism. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated this at Tuesday’s press briefing.
“A corresponding legal and contractual framework has been created and formed, and the channels of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies and special services of our countries are operating effectively. Therefore, we are increasing this work in the antiterrorism direction—both based on mutual interests and taking into account the need to combine efforts and opportunities for this,” Zakharova noted.
According to her, Russia consistently promotes “the idea of the need to form a just world order that will meet the interests of maintaining universal and indivisible security.”
“And in this context, we [i.e. Russia], of course, attach great importance to the development of cooperation with all friendly countries, including the Middle East and Transcaucasia regions, first of all, the UN, its specialized agencies, as well as such influential international and regional organizations as the SCO, the CSTO, and the CIS,” added the Russian MFA spox.
An intensive dialogue is being conducted on the threats of terrorism and the tasks of countering radicalism, Zakharova noted.
