Armenia government not attending parliamentary discussion on destruction of Karabakh’s historical, cultural heritage

A discussion on the topic “Baku is destroying the historical and cultural heritage of Artsakh” is underway in the National Assembly of Armenia; it is initiated by the opposition MPs.

Taguhi Tovmasyan, one of the initiating lawmakers, informed that the members of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) parliament and government, prominent cultural representatives, as well as the Primate of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church are participating in the discussion.

She added that there are representatives—at the level of ambassadors—also from the OSCE Minsk Group member countries, as well as the representative of the UN office in Armenia.

“We had invited also representatives of the [Armenian] government—represented by the MFA, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, and the Ministry of Justice. The representatives of the MFA and the Ministry of Justice refused [to attend] from the  beginning, while the representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports were to come at the level of deputy ministers. Four representatives had pre-approved, but refused [participating] an hour before the meeting. This means that there is a political instruction not to participate in the discussion called by the opposition MPs,” Tovmasyan said.
