Turkish FM: Trump’s Gaza proposal unacceptable

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan believes that US President Donald Trump’s proposal to resettle Gaza residents is unacceptable for Turkey and the region’s countries. He said this in an interview with Anadolu Agency.

“This is an unacceptable topic. And the countries of the region reacted to Trump’s idea in exactly the same way. The Palestinian issue began precisely for this reason, when the Palestinians were expelled from their lands and replaced there by Israelis. Now the situation has reached a point where the international community, especially the Islamic world, have reached a consensus on a solution to the Palestinian issue based on the creation of two states, including a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders,” Fidan said.

He noted that “some countries do not yet fully recognize Israel,” but there is an understanding that “with a settlement based on the principles of two states, the problem will be largely resolved.” “So far, however, there is no recognition [of these realities] from the Israeli side and from America, Israel’s largest supporter,” the foreign minister added.
