Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has canceled a visit to the United States over Trump’s Gaza plan. According to Arab sources, the reason is tensions between Cairo and Washington over the plan to resettle Palestinians in Egypt and Jordan.
The sources said that a report on the situation presented to the Egyptian political leadership described “the most serious tensions in relations with Washington in more than three decades.” They noted that senior Trump administration officials reacted extremely negatively to Cairo’s concerns about the implementation of this plan.
According to the report, another reason for the tension that led to the proposal to postpone the visit, scheduled for February 18, was the reaction of senior Trump administration officials to Egypt’s displeasure, as well as Trump’s reference to al-Sisi as a “general” in the White House, which was perceived as “some form of disdain.”
