A Syrian court has issued an arrest warrant for former President Bashar al-Assad.
“An arrest warrant has been issued in absentia for Bashar al-Assad on charges related to the events in Daraa in 2011,” the statement reads.
The case was brought at the request of relatives of the victims of the Daraa events.
The court’s decision paves the way for international prosecution of the former head of state through appropriate notices, including through Interpol.
