I am convinced that Armenia has not made sufficient efforts to compel the relevant international structures to stop turning a blind eye and pretending to be blind, deaf, and dumb regarding the issue of political prisoners. Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan stated this at a briefing with journalists in the National Assembly today, November 26.
“We must expel from Armenia all ambassadors representing countries for which democratic values were so important before 2018, but now they have become pawns in geopolitical games. They have turned their values into pawns, throwing them into this geopolitical furnace so that Nikol doesn’t freeze and cool off,” he noted.
According to Ashotyan, the issue of political prisoners is not only a problem for the opposition or the relatives of political prisoners. He noted that the EU Delegation to Armenia recently commemorated Gender Violence Day on its website, and Lidia Mantashyan is currently serving in that position.
According to Ashotyan, “Ambassadors fulfilling their mission in our country must step out of their comfort zone; they must terminate their mission solely on the issue of Nikol Pashinyan’s vaccination or the extension of his mandate.”
