“America Should Talk to Russia About This.” Zelenskyy Proposed a Ceasefire During the Ukrainian Elections

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed a ceasefire during the presidential elections in Ukraine. He stated this on December 11 during an online meeting of the “coalition of the willing,” Meduza reports. “We are ready to work with President Trump in any format. And if President Trump talks more about the upcoming elections in Ukraine, I want to say that we can try to hold them. Ukraine is not hiding from democracy,” Zelenskyy said. He noted that elections would be possible if security is ensured, “and America can help in this matter more than anyone else.” “If there is a need to hold elections, then there should be a ceasefire, at least for the entire electoral process and voting. And this needs to be discussed. And frankly, here in Ukraine, we believe that America should discuss this with the Russian side,” Zelenskyy said. In an interview with Politico on December 9, US President Donald Trump stated that “the time has come” to hold presidential elections in Ukraine. Zelenskyy said the same day that he was ready to hold the elections within 60-90 days if the US and Europe provided security.
