ANI: Pakistan opens fire on international border with India

The Pakistani military violated the ceasefire on the international border with India on Wednesday night, Indian news agency ANI reported citing military sources.

“Till yesterday morning, the Pakistani army was violating the ceasefire only along the Line of Control (LOC), but now they have escalated the situation by violating the ceasefire along the international borders by opening fire along the international border in the Paraguay sector in Jammu in the night,” the sources said. The Paraguay sector is in the Jammu division of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, south of the Line of Control (LOC). It lies along the officially recognized international border between India and Pakistan.

Earlier, the Indian Army said that Pakistani troops opened unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor sectors of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on the night of April 29-30. The Indian Army responded promptly and proportionately, the Indian Army said.

Ceasefire violations have been reported in the India-Pakistan border area for a week amid heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following a suicide attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people.
