Any action to change the recognized borders, create forced corridors or implement projects like the Zangezur Corridor will pose a direct threat to collective security. Iranian Parliament

A member of the Presidium of the Islamic Parliamentary Assembly, Ahmad Naderi, read out a statement of more than 150 MPs at an open session of the legislature today, which spoke about the strategic importance of the South Caucasus and the fight against risky projects on Iran’s northwestern borders. This was reported by Tasnim.

The statement reads:

“The Islamic Parliamentary Assembly, as a representative of the great nation of Iran, within the framework of the constitution and the general policy of the regime, emphasizes the strategic position of the South Caucasus for the country. This region is not only a geographical border but also part of Iran’s security perimeter, strategic depth and civilizational sphere, which has had strong historical, cultural and security ties with Iran for centuries and continues to play a vital role in maintaining territorial integrity and national security today.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its established principles, has always sought to resolve regional issues through direct dialogue among the countries of the region, free from interference by regional powers. Any action to change the recognized borders, create forced corridors or implement projects such as the Zangezur Corridor would be incompatible with the interests of the countries of the region and would pose a direct threat to collective security.

Referring to established international principles, the Islamic Parliamentary Assembly recalls that any change in internationally recognized borders without the consent of the governments concerned is a clear violation of the UN Charter and the principle of territorial integrity. countries.

The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to use all political, legal and legitimate means to resolutely defend itself in the event of an attack on its national security and interests. The South Caucasus is vital not only in terms of security but also as an important energy, transit and economic corridor for Iran and the entire region. Any economic and transit project aimed at weakening Iran’s geopolitical position is rejected by the Islamic Parliamentary Assembly and is unacceptable to the country. Iran believes that real development will occur when it takes into account the interests of all countries in the region and is carried out with respect for their national sovereignty. The Islamic Parliamentary Assembly warns that the upcoming developments in the Caucasus region may be accompanied by scenarios implemented by some regional actors to provoke interregional powers. Such regional coalitions do not serve the interests of the region and are unable to ensure sustainable security. Vigilance, solidarity and active diplomacy will be Iran’s main tools in combating these threats. We call on all countries in the region to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness, avoid actions that create tension, and expand regional cooperation without the participation of foreign countries. Development Economic and transit relations will be sustainable only within the existing borders and on the basis of mutual respect.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, acting actively, guided by the three principles of diplomacy: honor, wisdom and expediency, is ready to contribute to the settlement of the situation in the South Caucasus region, cooperating with all regional parties. Representatives of the Iranian people will protect national interests, supervising the implementation of foreign policy and preserving the country’s historical and security rights, and will respond to any threat worthy of a regional power.
