Archbishop Arshak transferred to Yerevan-Kentron correctional labor colony: lawyer

Archbishop Arshak has been transferred to the Yerevan-Kentron correctional labor colony, lawyer Arsen Babayan told reporters.

The court (Masis Melkonyan) granted the investigator’s motion and sentenced Archbishop Arshak to two months’ detention, lawyer Arsen Babayan wrote.

“What usually happens in such political cases has happened. There is no reason to believe that Archbishop Arshak committed a crime. There is an assumption based on certain information,” he noted after the court hearing.

According to the lawyer, the court confirmed that there is no evidence that Archbishop Arshak committed the crime he is accused of, only an assumption.

A public criminal case has been opened against Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan. “During the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, a criminal case was opened against the individual under Article 393, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 4 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal sale of narcotics committed by a group of individuals by prior conspiracy in a public place),” the Investigative Committee reported.
