Argentina no longer prints own money for sake of savings, media report

The Central Bank of Argentina has terminated the contract with the local mint to print 1,000 ($0.98) and 2,000 ($1.9) peso banknotes due to the high cost, La Nacion newspaper reports.

Mint employees were sent on forced leave.

“Banknotes, the printing of which will be stopped, are not needed. Today, the system is already quite full of them, and banknotes with a higher nominal value are needed,” a source at the Central Bank of Argentina told the aforesaid newspaper.
