Armenia is tightening requirements for vehicle gas cylinder inspections. The process will be recorded on video.

The government adopted a decision today, February 26, tightening requirements for the technical inspection of vehicle gas cylinders. Specifically, the inspection and certification process in specialized laboratories will be videotaped.

Laboratories must retain these recordings for at least six months (they can be reviewed by law enforcement agencies if necessary).

As a reminder, in 2025, five explosions involving vehicles powered by compressed gas (CNG) were recorded in Armenia (CNG is one of the main fuels for vehicles in Armenia).

According to current legislation from 2005, owners of CNG vehicles are required to have their cylinders laboratory tested every two years. Gas stations are prohibited from servicing vehicles that have not passed this test. In theory, the certification of cylinders should be overseen by the urban planning, technical and fire safety supervision authority, but in practice such checks are not carried out.
