Arsen Ghukasyan, transferred to Nubarashen Penitentiary, is in danger. Lawyer Tatev Soghoyan told Sputnik Armenia this in an interview.
According to the lawyer, the body conducting the case was presented with a medical report and a certificate of incapacity from the very beginning. Despite this, the court, ignoring all of this, chose pretrial detention as the ultimate measure of restraint, which directly contradicts the government’s decision, as he has not one but several illnesses incompatible with pretrial detention.
“Ghukasyan suffers from ischemic heart disease—chronic coronary syndrome. He has suffered several myocardial infarctions, undergone three stent placements, and has been fitted with a cardiac support device. His blood pressure is at very high risk (stage II). On the day of his arrest, October 6, an ambulance crew recorded a complaint from Ghukasyan, stating that he had suffered a blow to the chest during the incident, which could have damaged the defibrillator. He was instructed to immediately seek medical attention at the medical facility where the defibrillator was installed to rule out a malfunction, which has not yet been done. In other words, we are currently dealing with an extremely risky situation where a person’s life is at risk,” he said.
The lawyer added that the ambulance crew recorded Ghukasyan’s high blood pressure both on the day of his arrest and the day after his detention.
Soghoyan emphasized that he is currently taking steps to submit medical documents and relevant petitions to all competent authorities so that Arsen Ghukasyan can be released from custody as soon as possible and be admitted to an outpatient medical facility for a proper medical examination at the earliest opportunity.
As a reminder, two relatives of the missing servicemen, Apijan Sargsyan and Arsen Ghukasyan, were arrested on October 6. It was later revealed that Apijan Sargsyan had been released, but Arsen Ghukasyan had not. They were charged with hooliganism during a fight during a protest outside the RA Ministry of Defense on September 29 and obstructing the lawful official or political activities of an official. On October 7, it was reported that Arsen Ghukasyan had been detained for one month.
