Artur Hovhannisyan must resign, apologies will not solve the problem. Taguhi Tovmasyan

Artur Hovhannisyan must resign, apologies will not solve the problem. This was written by Taguhi Tovmasyan, a deputy from the “I have the honor” faction.

“Dear compatriots, I want to start the day with words of gratitude.

I am grateful to all of you, hundreds of acquaintances and strangers who expressed their support by calling, writing, personally coming up to me and standing next to me.

I am once again convinced that common sense unites, and I am not alone in defending my truth.

I am grateful to political and public figures, representatives of various structures and individuals.

The words of all of you condemning the hooligan behavior of the secretary of the ruling faction are valuable.

Special thanks to the female members of the National Assembly who quickly expressed their position on the unacceptable behavior of the CP Secretary.

Thanks also to the two opposition factions for their willingness to form an ethics committee.

It may not seem strange, but I am also grateful to those few CP members who showed their will and condemned Artur Hovhannisyan’s disrespectful behavior. Yes, even in power there are people who are ashamed of… The shameful behavior of the faction secretary, who is afraid to speak out.

In continuation, I would like to emphasize that my letter to the NA Chairman, in which I demanded that Artur Hovhannisyan be required to undergo a drug test, is completely legal. According to the new procedure, from August 1, 2025, this obligation is imposed on all doctors. What the government demands from a doctor should also be demanded by an MP, a minister, and other officials.

Secondly, Artur Hovhannisyan’s behavior clearly goes beyond the ethical norms of a National Assembly member.

Sobriety and good behavior are the most important characteristics of adequacy, without which the state apparatus is under threat.

My proposal was based on the interests of protecting the National Assembly institution, in response to which there were no meaningful counterarguments or political assessments, but only dirty, vulgar statements, passing off their own corruption as a pattern. As a result, the method of humiliating a woman had an absolute boomerang effect on a person who, in fact, may need help today.

As for the creation of the National Assembly Ethics Commission, I do not want to chase symbolism. It is already clear that this commission will not show the political will to punish Artur Hovhannisyan in any case, so there is no point in working on it. The arrogant silence of the authorities is proof of my words.

But it is obvious that neither the Ethics Commission nor yesterday’s apologies close the page on this shameful behavior. Artur Hovhannisyan crossed the red line, which, alas, is not the end, but a precedent that cannot go unpunished.

He must resign.

Artur Hovhannisyan cannot avoid legal responsibility. I will take care of this.

P.S. Nikol Pashinyan’s silence is an argument for the legitimization of this dangerous precedent, which is a new challenge to public solidarity at all levels, from everyday to legal. What I said is not an exaggeration. Artur Hovhannisyan must receive a farewell SMS, otherwise it will turn out that the state and all the values and moral norms underlying it are worthless,” he wrote.
