The Ministry of Interior stated in a statement on December 13 that the decision was made to protect Cambodians, Thais, and all foreign nationals, especially those crossing the border. Cambodian and Thai citizens are advised to remain where they currently live and work until the ceasefire agreement is fully implemented.
The ministry instructed local authorities to provide full protection and assistance to Thai citizens and foreign residents, along with Cambodian citizens. The ministry also called on Thailand to ensure the safety of Cambodians living there.
Senate Speaker Hun Sen called on the Prime Minister to consider temporarily suspending cross-border travel, citing security concerns amid ongoing clashes.
He noted that recent border incidents have resulted in civilian casualties, damage to public infrastructure, and exposed some areas to hazardous materials.
Speaking in his capacity as President of the Senate, Head of the Supreme Privy Council, and leader of the ruling party, Hun Sen stated that the proposed measure is aimed at reducing the risks associated with cross-border travel during this challenging period. He also called on Cambodian authorities to ensure the safety of Thai citizens currently in Cambodia.
