Beijing plans to resolutely suppress interference from external forces in the Taiwan question. This is stated in a report of the PRC government, distributed at the opening of the 3rd session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC, parliament).
“We must unwaveringly adhere to the [Communist] Party’s overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era,” the document says. “We are categorically opposed to the separatist actions of “Taiwan independence” advocates, we will firmly oppose interference from external forces, and promote the peaceful development of relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.”
Beijing seeks to deepen integrated development with the island, improve the well-being of “compatriots on both sides” of the Taiwan Strait, firmly and unwaveringly advance the great cause of national reunification, and “jointly achieve great achievements in the cause of rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” the report says.
