Finland is not ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but can assist in organizing security measures. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated this at a press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Yle reports.
Orpo noted that he does not understand why Finland is mentioned among the countries providing security guarantees in Washington’s 28-point peace plan. He emphasized that real guarantees will be provided by both leading European countries and the United States.
“Security guarantees are a very serious issue. We are not ready to provide security guarantees, but we can assist in organizing security,” Orpo stated.
Following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on December 1, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the countries of the “Coalition of the Willing” had completed work on security guarantees for Ukraine and intend to discuss them with the American side in the coming days.
