Gyumri Mayor Varan Ghukasyan’s office is currently under police protection. According to Mayoral Advisor Lilit Aghekyan, police have indicated that law enforcement will continue to carry out measures today.
Yesterday’s actions by NSS officers resulted in damage to the City Hall building. They broke the glass door and window, installed a metal sheet, and covered it with plastic wrap. Despite this, City Hall resumed normal operations today.
Later, the Anti-Corruption Committee issued a statement noting that eight City Hall employees, including Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, had been arrested on charges of bribery and bribery.
The city’s chief architect, Henrik Gasparyan, was also among those arrested. The Anti-Corruption Committee’s statement included a recording of the mayor’s conversation with the chief architect.
The powers of Vardan Ghukasyan and other officials have been suspended.
