Narek Ohanyan, accused of aiding and abetting the murder of Valodi Grigoryan, the mayor of the extended Parakar community, and his friend Karen Abrahamyan, stated in court that he denies the charges against him. He made this statement today, March 10, during a court hearing held at the Ayapnyak residence of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.
“I am being accused of… my daily activities. They said what I did, and I said I did those actions. They attributed my daily activities to me, that I provided some assistance,” he stated.
Gevorg Harutyunyan, accused of the murders, also stated that he has nothing to do with the murders he committed, denies the charges, and will provide details at the next court hearing.
Today, the prosecutor presented the circumstances of the murders in court.
As a reminder, on September 23, at approximately 11:52 PM, Valodya Grigoryan, head of the Parakar community, was killed near his newly built home on Yerevan Highway in the village of Merdzavan. Criminal police officer Karen Abrahamyan, a friend of Grigoryan’s who was with him at the time of the incident, was also killed in an unrelated incident. The wounded citizen, Artsrun Galstyan, is in critical condition. A masked and gloved assailant approached Grigoryan and his friends, who were standing near the house, and opened fire.
In connection with the incident, the Vagharshapat Investigative Department of the Armavir Regional Investigative Department has opened a criminal case under Part 1 (2 episodes) of Article 155 (murder), Part 1 of Article 44-155 (attempted murder), and Part 1 of Article 335 (illegal trafficking of firearms, their main components, ammunition, and other materials, devices, and objects) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Two defendants are currently in custody: 31-year-old Narek Ohanyan and 20-year-old Gevorg Harutyunyan.
