“…I am confident that for Armenia and many other countries, being at the crossroads of interests of major geopolitical centers is both a challenge and an opportunity.” Serzh Sargsyan

Mary Harutyunyan shared excerpts from Serzh Sargsyan’s speeches at the Munich Conference on Security Policy in 2009 and 2018 on her Facebook page, writing:

“Modern

“If you turn the pages of history, it becomes obvious that superpowers and empires have historically had serious ambitions to establish their dominance over this part of the earth. This is the case today. The modern South Caucasus is one of the regions where there are seemingly insurmountable divides, where the internationally recognized political map of states differs from reality, where stability is extremely vulnerable, and restoring peace requires joint efforts. and a huge amount of targeted work.

Dear colleagues,

We often talk about the questions of “what will happen”, “how will it develop”, “what will happen, how to govern?”, but in fact, I believe it is also right to talk about how the past years have passed. What lessons have we learned from the events, the bloody events of last year and the international financial and economic crisis?

…This is a region with its ancient culture, rich history and societies with new aspirations. First, as a person who has seen war, who knows its true destruction, second, as the President of Armenia, realizing that it is not in the interests of my country anyway, but I, as an Armenian, have many nervous days, realizing that wherever they explode bombs, Armenians live on both sides of the line of fire.

In such cases, the human factor cannot but prevail in my decisions. But as a representative of Armenians around the world, I know well what it means to use the “human factor” “for” purposes, I know its power not from analysis. , and from the history of my people, from my daily activities:

“…I am sure that for Armenia and many other countries, being at the intersection of interests of large geopolitical centers is both a challenge and an opportunity. When these centers are in conflict, the interests of small states are sometimes ignored. Therefore, our task is to always turn challenges into opportunities through cooperation and harmonization of interests.”
