The development of events in the South Caucasus has two main directions: the first is peace and a peaceful settlement of the Azerbaijani-Armenian disagreements, and the second is transit and transport routes. As Tasnim reports, this was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmail Bagai.
According to him, Iran has repeatedly emphasized the need to sign a peace agreement as soon as possible.
“We strongly urge Azerbaijan and Armenia to reach a peace agreement. We are in favor of expanding transport routes, but this should not contradict the territorial integrity of the countries. Iran’s position on this issue has not changed. Iran has always supported the creation and expansion of communication routes, considering this an effective step towards the economic development of countries and strengthening regional trade ties. In recent days, the issue of involving extra-regional players in the Caucasus has been discussed, which Iran does not agree with. “Iran considers this contrary to the interests of regional security and development. Rumors that some extra-regional forces are involved in the events in the South Caucasus have already been refuted by the relevant parties. Iran is closely monitoring these processes and is in close contact with both Azerbaijan and Armenia,” he noted.
