The Indian government has decided to declare a seven-day mourning period in connection with the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. This was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the South Asian republic.
“As a mark of respect for the deceased high-ranking official, a seven-day state mourning will be observed all over India from 26.12.2024 to 01.01.2025 inclusive. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast all over India and no official entertainment events will be held,” the ministry said.
The government has also decided to hold a state funeral. It is expected to take place on December 28. “The national flag will also be flown at half-mast on the day of the funeral in all Indian embassies abroad,” the ministry said.
Manmohan Singh died on December 26 at the age of 92 in the emergency room, where he was taken from home unconscious. According to doctors, Singh suffered from a number of ailments typical of old people. Despite all the efforts of doctors, it was not possible to resuscitate him.
