India to build its own nuclear attack submarine by 2036

The first Indian-made nuclear attack submarine will be ready by 2036. This was announced by the Chief of the Indian Navy, Admiral Dinesh Tripathi.

According to him, the program for creating a nuclear submarine for the Indian Navy has been approved by the government. “The first indigenous nuclear attack submarine will be delivered by 2036, the second will be delivered in the next two years,” India Today quotes Tripathi as saying.

“These submarines will significantly enhance the navy’s capability and demonstrate its power in protecting national interests,” the admiral emphasized. Tripathi added that India’s submarine fleet serves as a counterweight to the growing maritime activity of China and Pakistan in the Indian Ocean region.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Navy recalled the commissioning of the second nuclear-powered missile submarine Arighaat in August, from which a K-4 ballistic missile with a range of 3.5 thousand km was launched in November. Tripathi said the test was successful.
