Iran likely to send delegation to Vienna for IAEA talks: Abbas Araghchi

Detailing the results of the visit of IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of Safeguards Department Massimo Aparov to Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that, in his opinion, Aparov’s visit to Iran was useful for Tehran in terms of better understanding of the nuclear issue.

“After this trip, we outlined and presented our views on a possible solution based on a parliamentary law. On Saturday, the IAEA prepared its comments and sent them to us, and this mutually beneficial cooperation between Iran and the agency continues. We will probably send colleagues to Vienna for the next round of talks,” the senior Iranian diplomat added.

A source familiar with the situation told Tasnim on Monday that the date of the next round of talks between Iran and Europe has not yet been determined, but Iran’s contacts with the three European countries remain open and direct, with the two sides exchanging messages regularly.

He added that consultations and discussions on the possible activation of the feedback mechanism are still ongoing, and it is too early to say what decision the Europeans will make. The source stressed that from Iran’s point of view, the Europeans have no right to use the feedback mechanism.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Monday that, following the logic of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – ed.), Iran has taken a number of voluntary steps in exchange for the lifting of unfair sanctions by the US and European countries, such as limiting the level of uranium enrichment or resolving other issues related to the use of various types of weapons.
