Iranian President Tells Iraqi PM Tehran Ready to Cooperate in Fighting Terrorists in Syria

In a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shiad Al-Sudani, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country is ready to cooperate in fighting terrorist attacks in Syria, Mehr reported.

“Iran is ready for any cooperation in fighting these terrorist attacks,” Masoud Pezeshkian told Mohammad Shiad Al-Sudani in a phone call on Sunday afternoon.

The Iranian president stressed that preserving the territorial integrity of countries like Syria is a regional strategy for the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that “while the region was moving toward relative peace following the ceasefire in Lebanon and attention was focused on Gaza, recent developments in Syria have raised serious concerns about regional security.”

“These incidents (in Syria) are part of the malicious plans of the Zionist regime to increase instability, division and conflicts within Islamic countries, which has led to the need for the Islamic Ummah to unite and make joint efforts to prevent the spread of terrorist currents in the region,” Pezeshkian added.

The Iraqi Prime Minister, in turn, expressed concern about the emergence of an insecure situation in northern Syria, assessing the recent movements of terrorist groups as an attempt by Israel to undermine security and violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.
