Iran’s foreign minister called on the UN to take a strong stance against the “dangerous” US plan for the Gaza Strip and its residents.
In a telephone conversation, Minister Abbas Araghchi and UN Secretary-General António Guterres discussed developments in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip, Tasnim reported.
The Iranian foreign minister condemned the US-Zionist plan to forcibly displace Gazans and relocate them to other countries.
Araghchi emphasized the need for the UN, especially the Security Council, to take a strong and clear stance against such a dangerous plot that jeopardizes international peace and security.
He said the proposal to forcibly resettle Palestinians violates all norms and principles of international law and the UN Charter, adding that it complements the Zionist regime’s plans to genocide and destroy Palestine.
Araqchi said the Muslim countries’ collective condemnation of the Gaza displacement plan reflects the widespread concern of regional countries over the continued and brazen violation of the rights of the Palestinian people.
The Iranian minister also condemned the Israeli prime minister’s proposal to relocate Palestinians to Saudi Arabia.
For his part, Guterres reiterated the UN’s opposition to any plan to forcibly relocate Palestinians, emphasized the need to respect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and called the displacement of Gaza’s population unacceptable.
The UN Secretary-General also emphasized the need for the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and the reconstruction of the enclave.
