It’s unclear by what criteria the Armenian authorities are labeling opposition figures as “agents of Russian influence,” said Maria Zakharova.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded to a journalist’s question about Moscow’s position, given that the persecution of opposition figures and clergy in Armenia is accompanied by accusations of ties to Russia and Russian intelligence services.
“My question is: by what criteria are they identified? If these people advocate for developing bilateral relations, then Pashinyan also talks about developing relations with Russia. But if they are simply settling scores with opposition figures under the guise of Russia, then that’s no longer a friendly approach,” she said.
