The North Atlantic Alliance is expanding its presence and seeking to extend its hegemony to the entire Eurasian space, as well as to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region (APR). This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting of the United Russia Party General Council Commission on International Cooperation, TASS reports.
“In recent years, especially after the coup d’etat in Ukraine, NATO has been doing exactly the opposite, expanding, claiming a dominant role not only in the West of our continent, but throughout its entire space, declaring that it is extremely important for the security of NATO members to engage in spreading its influence to the Asia-Pacific region and to form closed blocs there as well,” the minister said.
Lavrov noted that the meaning of the concept of Eurasian security put forward by Russian President Vladimir Putin is to apply in practice the principle of “regional problems – regional solutions”.
“That is, it is the countries of the region, in this case Eurasia, that should bear joint responsibility for resolving conflicts, preventing negative interference from outside. Such work is all the more in demand because the collective West, which opted for a NATO-centric Euro-Atlantic architecture, essentially put an end to the agreements that were reached in this context, primarily within the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, where the principle of indivisibility of security was repeatedly proclaimed by consensus at the highest level, it was proclaimed that no organization in the OSCE region would claim a dominant role – all of this was trampled underfoot,” Lavrov said.
