One of the greatest works of the genius Mozart, “Requiem” – this most influential funeral mass of all time – a heartfelt hymn to the Lord, the depth, drama and grandeur of which, emotionality and brightness do not leave the listener indifferent. “Requiem” is the last work of Mozart, the swan song of the great composer, which has become one of the greatest monuments of world culture.
“Requiem” is a funeral mass performed to a traditional Latin religious text. It consists of several sections, some of which are included in the liturgy (“Kyrie eleison” – “Lord, have mercy”, “Sanctus” – “Holy”, “Agnus Dei” – “Lamb of God”), and there are obligatory parts that relate only to the funeral mass (“Requiem aeternam” – “Eternal rest”, “Dies irae” and “Tuba mirum” – “Day of wrath” and “Wonderful trumpet”, which depict the last judgment of the Lord and “Lacrimosa” – “Lamentation”).
In his “Requiem” Mozart embodied through music the confusion, peaceful calm, sorrow and suffering of the human soul. The whole work is imbued with humanism, warm love for humanity and sympathy for the suffering.
