Nearly 200,000 Ukrainian Refugees at Risk of Losing Legal Status in the US

Nearly 200,000 Ukrainians who entered the US during the Trump administration are at risk of losing their legal status in the country due to delays in processing applications to extend their status under the Trump administration, Reuters reports, citing previously unpublished US government data.

According to the report, since April 2022, approximately 260,000 people from Ukraine have entered the US under the program of former President Joe Biden’s administration.

It is noted that delays in processing applications by foreigners to extend their legal status in the US began after Trump took office.

According to US government data cited by the agency, since May 2025, US authorities have processed only 1,900 applications to extend the status of citizens of Ukraine and other countries.
