This morning, the person holding the position of Prime Minister wrote that the ENA “nationalization” program will be implemented in the near future. This literally means taking away the property of one man who has invested for years in modernizing the grid, reducing losses, improving service, and supplying electricity to the Armenian people at the lowest possible price.
This move has no economic purpose, this move is a clear manifestation of political revenge directed against Samvel Karapetyan. The man who dared to defend the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church dared to speak out without fear. That is why they started:
• First a smear campaign.
• Then a criminal case, arrest, tax evasion
• Now a direct attack on private property.
This is not nationalization. This is a naked, classic example of political retaliation by the government.
There is no serious economic justification. Not a single law was broken. There is no public discontent with the activities of ESA, except for the false propaganda generated by the government. On the contrary, during the years of its rule, the Tashir Group invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the re-equipment of the infrastructure. And today they are trying to take it all away, simply based on the whim of the landlord.
This is a direct signal to all investors: if you express an independent opinion in Armenia, everything can be taken away from you.
What will happen next?
• Investors will leave.
• The energy system will again become unstable.
• The people will be left with high tariffs, poor service and an even more vulnerable economy.
The authorities punish everyone who does not bend and does not keep quiet. And they punish not with the law, but with lawlessness.
But this will not work.
Neither political persecution nor confiscation of property will silence those who support statehood, the army, Artsakh, the Church and the Armenia that will come tomorrow and be without Nikol.
